Readers Project: Barbara’s Snappy Quilts
Note From Alanda Craft: Barbara has been busy making snappy quilts and these ones are just beautiful. I love the vibrant colours and this patchwork quilt pattern is really lovely. I am sure many of you will be inspired by the lovely quilts that Barbara makes and shares with us. So thank you once again for sharing your latest quilts with us Barbara.
We were in New Mexico in late March and ran across a little quilt shop in Taos on the way to a cantina for lunch. I could have spent hours in there! I came away with three patterns/packages of fat quarters. I had no clue what I was going to do with them.
When we got home, I took them to the quilt shop and talked to Crystal. I told her I was TERRIBLE at cutting, I mean really, really bad. And that I’d heard that she was excellent at it. I also saw a quilt hanging up in the shop that had an interesting block pattern that MAYBE I might be ready to try.
Crystal walked me through it and I decided to give it a shot. It’s called “Snappy”. It has 20 blocks with 5 pieces in each block, each one being different in size and shape. This was fun to do and pretty fast and easy for a beginner like me. Finally, there are 2 borders, an inner and an outer border.
These three are all really big! Adding the 2 inch and 6.5 inch borders really increases the size.
- Here is the first one. It has kitties in it:
- The quilt below has lots of lovely floral pieces
- The patterned pieces all have a nice sheen to them. I even chose the two border fabrics because they are shiny, too. I just can’t get it to show up in pictures. The colors are brighter than they appear. I call this one my peacock quilt and it’s for a friend in San Diego. I saw the package in the shop and immediately thought of Letty
- The green border is off-color, too. It actually matches the little leaves and swirls in the pattern.
