Sebastian & Lucia’s Wedding Signature Quilt
My grandson Sebastian married his lovely fiance, Lucia in Fiji, on the 2nd of June. So I decided to make them a signature quilt to commemorate the occasion. I love these quilts for special occasions. And they are always well received.
I used Japanese fabrics with reddish-brown tonings and featuring Koi fish and fans for the quilt.
We have a tutorial available on making a signature quilt, but I made a few adjustments to this quilt. So I thought I would pass on the changes so that you can see how easy it is to make a change to this quilt.
I was going to use 10″ squares but soon realized that this would make the quilt too large and too heavy to carry onboard the plane so I decided to go with 7″ finished squares.
The finished quilt size is approx 43″ x 52″
I wanted 4 squares across and 5 down, with a centre panel to embroider their names on.
Signature Quilt
What you need:
- ¼ yard of 4 contrasting fabrics. (you can use as many contrasting fabrics as you wish)
- approx 1 yard of contrasting fabric for sashing ( I had some strips leftover)
- Batting
- Backing
Method:
- Main – Cut 18 squares measuring 7½” square.
- Sashing – Cut 14 strips measuring 7½” x 2½ inches
- Feature Panel – Cut one piece from the sashing fabric measuring 7½” x 16½”.
- Cut the long pieces of sashing once the rows are assembled so that you get the right measurement for the sashing pieces.
Lay out the squares in the manner you want them to look when the quilt is finished. You can see here that I have left a space left for the feature panel.
- See the video on how to construct the quilt. The only difference from the video tutorial is adding the feature panel.
- I previously made one of these quilts for my grandaughter Ishta when she married her long time partner, Evan a few years ago. You can see her quilt here with the guest’s signatures.
- Ishta loves Owls so I chose a woodland themed charm square pack from Moda and the centre panel features owls and woodland characters as well.
