How to Mass Make Word Labels For Junk Journals

Have you ever thought of dressing up your word labels? Up until now I would just print out the words I wanted to used in a journal, ink the edges and either pop them in an envelope or paste them onto the page or tag.

Well, I was making a journal recently and decided to add a border to my word labels. Now you can use this method to mass make a large number of word labels to have on hand when you are creating your journals or you can just make one or two using paper from the kit you are using to make labels specifically for the journal you are making.

And here is what I did

I downloaded a page of inspirational words and sayings from Digital Hobby Helper on Etsy.

For the Book lovers Journal I downloaded a background page from the kit I was using from My Porch Prints for my journal. I left approx ½” as the border.
However. you can use scrapbooking paper, printed pages from books or magazines, tea dyed paper as your background.

In the video I used a background page from our Pink ‘n’ Green Backgrounds pack, a page from a 6″ x 6″ scrapbook album, some tea dyed book paper and also a small scrap of leftover scrapbooking paper.
If you find that some of the labels have some white space around them simply trim it off or if it’s only a small amount of white paper, then just ink the edges. I use Tea Dye Distress Ink but you can use your favourite. ink..

Glue the words to the paper you have decided to use as the background.

Leave room around the words so that you have room to cut them out and leave a nice border. I like to leave a 1/4″ or a slightly larger border but you can make the border as narrow or wide as suits your purpose.

Now when it comes to cutting around the label you can use:

a paper trimmer. I use a Fiskars paper trimmer
a pair of paper scissors,
a pair of scissors that cut decorative edges. You can buy these in sets with different edge styles or:
a Tim Holtz Deckle Cutter if you have one.
I also tear around the edges to give a nice uneven look that suits junk journals.
Once you have cut around the word label. ink the edges. I used Tea Dye distress ink.
