We were recently approached by the guys at Lone Star Laser, to take a look at their pre-cut, pre fused appliqué quilt kits.
Of course, we said yes we would be delighted to, and they sent through 4 designs for us to choose from. We chose the ‘Campers’ design by Amy Bradley, simply because it’s really cute and it fits in with our Aussie lifestyle. Like many Americans, Aussies love to go away on weekends in their camper vans. So this design resonated with us.
NOTE:
Now the great guys at Lone Star Laser have been very generous and they have given us a coupon code so that you can all receive 15% off your entire order from their shop.
When you are ready to checkout simply add the coupon code ALANDACRAFT15
The kit comes neatly packaged in a plastic bag which keeps everything neat and tidy.
So What’s in the Kit?
The kit includes all pre-cut, pre-fused appliqué pieces for 8 blocks and pattern for a quilt measuring 40″ x 54″.
The first page is a picture of what’s in the kit. In this case all 8 camper van quilt blocks. On the reverse side, it tells you about the fusible web and what to do with your pattern pieces.
The next page tells again shows the completed quilt and also lets you know that there are 10 different family members patterns included.
Next is the Camper Material List. This lists all the material sizes for each of the pieces included in each van, and it also tells you what extra materials you are going to need, such as the Background, sashing, inside border, outside border and the binding. You will also need some batting or Wonder Under.
Camper Van Blocks
Now each of the pre-cut pre-fusedCamper blocks comes in their own separate plastic bag. This is just awesome as you have somewhere to keep all your pieces neat and tidy as you work. In the bag is another smaller bag that contains the white pieces such as signs, wheel trims, etc.
The block size is 14″ x 18″.
On the back of the picture for each block is the blurb about the fusible web. It’s such a good idea to have it included with each block so that you have it right there in front of you as you work.
There are sheets of patterns for each camper van plus placement sheets so that you know exactly how everything should line up.
NOTE:
These patterns and placement sheets can be used at a later stage if you wish to make another quilt, perhaps for a friend as a gift. You can use your own materials and apply fusible web to the pieces. So this is really value for money.
Camper Family Wall Hanging
Now, this is a real bonus. Included in the kit are pictures of the camping family and the welcome wall hangings.
There are the pattern pieces and placement sheets for Grandad, Grandma, Mum, Dad, and 4 kids, plus a dog and a cat. trees and a tent. With these patterns you can make a lovely wall hanging from your choice of materials. And these wall hangings will look lovely hanging in your van or on your wall at home, to remind you of the enjoyable times you have when you are camping.
Or you can make a wall hanging measuring 18 ” x 18½” using one of the camper van patterns and the word Welcome. The lettering for Welcome is also included in the kit.
Please Note:
There are no pre-cut pieces included for the family members, dog, cat, tent or trees. You cut these from your own fabric.
We found the easiest way to put the pieces together was to photocopy the placement sheet, place our backing material on top of the placement sheet and pin the pieces to the backing, making sure they lined up with the placement shown on the placement sheet.
Don’t pin as you normally do but just stab the pins through the fabric. It’s just to stop the pieces moving around until you are ready to press them into place on your backing. We found our wool pressing mat ideal for this.
Once you have pressed the pieces into place, following the instructions given in the kit, you are ready to appliqué.
Use whatever method suits you, some like to hand appliqué others like to use a blanket stitch on the sewing machine. The choice is yours.
Add any embellishments to make your design pop. Di added hot glue rhinestones to the van for the lights and it really looks great.
We really recommend that you check out the range of pre-cut, pre-fused appliqué quilt kits at Lone Star Laser. They have over 100 different pre-cut, pre-fused appliqué kits available by a number of designers.
I have to add that as these kits are so well laid out and come with such comprehensive instructions, they are suitable both for beginners and for those who are experienced at appliqué.
Here you can see how our friend Di put together the pink Camper and how she has used hot fix crystals to add some pop and bling to the design.

I would like to win because the grass would be mowed and the camper would be towed and the family would hold the greatest holiday ever told
OH WOW!!!!! What a great kit of campers!! This would be great to do, I camp and it would be great to take with me when I go.. Love you tutorial about this and other ones that I just subscripted to.. Have a great day! Trudy
Such an amazin kit! Very well thought out. I love that each block has its own plastic bag to keep everything corralled.
I was raised by my Grandparents and we took many Summer trips in our little camper.
Now as an adult I would like to own my own camper. Not for traveling but for my own little quilting retreat. Can you picture it? All the things that I could see for the interior. I would make everything in aquas and reds with lots of polka dots. Curtains, pillows, quilts, cushions, oh my all the things I could make.
I could have my sewing machine on the little kitchen table. There would be a fridge for my cold drinks and snacks. A window ac for those hot summer days.
When my family is looking for me I can hide in my little camper and tell them I’m not home I’m off at a quilting retreat. Do you think they would buy that?
In reality, I think this quilt kit is adorable. I would love to win to this kit and make myself a caravan quilt. I’ve had 3 surgeries on my right shoulder and it makes cutting fabric slow. I can only cut a few pieces at a time before I have problems. This kit would alleviate the cutting so I can get straight to the fun part.
I would absolutely love to win this giveaway!! I would pay-it-forward. My husbands family created a campground with homestead property that was donated to all the family members many years ago as a gathering spot for reunions. It has turned into a campground with over 25 seasonal campers, a stand-alone kitchen and open dance floor built using re-purposed lumber from the original farmhouse that has since been torn down. We enjoy spending time together on weekends and vacations and once a year we hold a “Reunion Weekend” filled with activities such as horseshoe tournament, potluck dinner, pancake breakfast etc. We hold an old-time dance with prize giveaways. I can imagine how amazing it would be for me to make this quilt for a great gift giveaway!! What a keepsake!!
I would love to win this kit as we have a camper and go camping all the time. There would be no better way to express how much our family love camping together than to make this beautiful quilt kit.
I love this applique quilt love to go camping I’m trying to get my husband to get a camper like the one he lived in when we were dating we do have a camper but not the one like that a friend of ours has one when he up dates to a new one I told him I wanted his and he said okay we have been married for 41 years and this would mean the world to me the quilt would be the icing on the cake
Absolutely the cutest camper pattern – reminds me of good times with the family, hitting the road and taking in the sights!!! So much fun and so many carefree hours together! Best trip ever to Anne of Green Gables in PEI – in the days when you had to take a ferry to get there from the mainland! The dog ate all the hamburger buns – he looked like he was going to explode, the car overheated and we met so many nice people who stopped to help! The fantastic local lobster dinners that the church groups did as fund raisers! Wow – so many great memories!!
Started quilting 6 years ago when my baby girl was born. Lap quilts for family and friends. As the baby grew older she needed more time, needed more room. My quilt room got less time, less room. Had to make a change. 2 weeks ago I’ve ordered the Beach Beauties and it made my heart sing. Amy Bradley is the best. There is always somebody in the family or close circle of friends that her designs can be perfect. The whimsical characters, the layout,, the mood of the designs all can be personalized. And the best part, having little time and little space is perfect for this type of quilting. And even if I don’t win, I would still like to thank you for making these wonderful designs for us.
I am a former tent camper, now almost 60. We bought a pop-up last year, these old bones don’t like sleeping on the ground anymore. We have found the pop-up to be a good compromise, and may go to a bigger camper someday, who knows. I would love the have a Camper quilt for use in my camper!!!
Would love to make this wall hanging to give as a gift to our friends whom we have been camping with every memorial weekend for over 25yrs!
Love your designs. Just made a golfer for my son for his birthday!
I want to do this quilt and I already bought the pattern. I also want to go camping. If I won, I could probably fit in time for both right? We have a disabled adult child living at home and camping is one of the activities we love to do together because it is peaceful and not overwhelming for her. My husband and I get time together to relax too which is a godsend! I am getting my first baby this year too so I cannot wait to do the pillowcases with my daughter and son in law with their bundle of joy! This will be such a fun project!
We have been campers for years. This kit is just too cute. It would look adorable in our cabin.
I would love to win it. I am new to applique, but really starting to like it.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the little retro campers….not too long ago I told my hubby I’d like to get one and restore…what a neato, funky project….so cute and unique.
I have a friend that has taught me several classes in quilting. They recently sold their home and bought a camper to travel. I would love to do this as a thank you gift for her teaching me. She never charges for her classes.
I would love to win this because my grandkids camp out with their 3 children and it would make an awesome gift for me to give them a “camper” quilt. The design is so adorable, I know the little kids would really get a kick out of covering up under a remarkable quilt like this one would make.
I would love to win! And the reason I would love to win is because I am obsessed with campers. I have a board dedicated to them on my Pinterest. I seen a Birdhouse Camper today at a department store and fell in love. You see my husband and I have a dream, and it’s not to camp or travel…..but a dream to live in a camper on a small piece of property after our daughters are grown. I keep a collection of things that I keep for our dream, and this quilt would go in the collection. So you know….it would be great if you could help a girl out with her dream. Have a great day, and thank you for the chance to win.
It reminds of my childhood and camping with my family in our little trailer. Memories have become really important in the last month since my Dad passed away… These little colorful memory campers woul make my mother smile
Wow I love the quilt. We had a little trailer many years ago. My children were very young and we couldn’t wait for Friday to get off on a weekend trip. It would be such fun to relive the time when my 4 children were young. They are 54 – 46 now. So you see it was many years ago. Thanks for the offer of the giveaway!
My family are all campers. I am a quilter who is always looking to learn new things in the Quilting world. My Grandmother’s Wedding Ring is top priority and there is beautiful applique which I would love to do. I am a beginner I this category.
Fusible applique would be ideal for this project.
I have completed the big bag pattern and have used it on retreat, and at the Guild Sewing days. Thanks so much has for this wonderful pattern.
This quilt kit made me laugh. I’ve only had one camping vacation in my life. My sister, her family and my children slept in the camper. My husband decided that a real camping trip required a tent. We slept in the tent. It rained for 48 hours. I have never been camping since. The quilt family is having a much better camping experience.
I would like to win because I would NEVER be able to figure out how to do this on my own. And I agree with the other comments – this is a perfect camping trip for someone who has never done it (camping OR quilting applique). Your patterns are an inspiration for all. Keep it up.
I think this would be a great quilt to do and I would proudly display it in my camper. I have never tried a pre-cut applique kit before and I think it would be an interesting challenge to do.
My hubby and I are just about to venture out in our caravan for a month trip about Qld Australia, I have had brain surgery to removes some of the tumour I have, and now sewing is what I do since my life has changed sadly, three years ago. This would be a great project to help to remember our adventure in the van and to give me also a project to look forwards to doing. This cames precut so will make things a lot easier for me. Thank you for a chance to win this wonderful project. Susan Kricker
What a great kit. I would love to win it to give to a friend who is a very kind and giving soul. She would really appreciate it as she loves sewing and makes and gives away a lot of items. This would be something special she could keep for herself. Thanks for the opportunity to win this.
My husband and I are late camper bloomers. We got our camper after we retired and just love it and traveling the country. Since I’m a quilter, this would be a great addition to have to make our camper our home away from home. Thank you for the generous prize. I hope I can make it mine.
I’ve just recently started learning how to quilt and thoroughly enjoying it. Not enough hours in a day. I would do much love to win the Camper Kit to encourage me even more. Something bright and colourful and perfect kit to learn to appliqué.
Thank you for the opportunity to be able to win the kit.
wow…what an amazing kit!! that quilt would be an eye opener on the bed in my kids inheritance (van)…lol…thank you Alanda Craft for the chance to win such a wonderful gift
I would like to win this and complete it for my in-laws. Because of health reasons, they can no longer do volunteer work and travel around the country in their camper. They are selling the camper and ending years of helping others. We, as a family, also enjoy tent camping and camping with our pop up camper.
