Note from Alanda Craft: Wow, just wow. Kathy’s ‘Quilt as You Go’ Butterfly quilt looks amazing. What a wonderful way to use these blocks from a bygone era. I am sure your husband appreciates how beautifully you have incorporated these lovely keepsakes into this quilt. Thank you for sharing your photo’s and your story with us Kathy. Your quilt is just gorgeous and an inspiration for those with memory blocks that they weren’t sure what to use them for.
Kathy's Comment:
Your QAYG sashing technique was super easy! I would certainly do it again. The one thing I couldn’t do was use my sewing machine to top stitch the sashing. My bobbin thread (natural color) came up so I had to hand stitch it.
The butterflies were cut out by my husbands Great Aunt Beulah who passed in 1997 so I’m not sure what decade the prints are from . . . 1970’s, 1980’s? The only block she finished is the red butterfly 2nd block from the left, 3rd one down. I would’ve liked to have met her as my husband’s grandmother gave the butterflies to me after she passed on.
Again, AlandaCraft, thanks for instructions on the QAYG sashing – Kathy
