Those of you who follow our channel know that we have become fans of laser engraving and cutting. Although we are still focusing on our quilting and sewing projects, we have been spending a lot of time with our laser machines. So I do hope you will bear with us while we chat about our latest acquisition.
We recently received an Atezr L2 24 Watt Laser cutting and engraving machine to review, and we would like to thank Atezr for giving us the opportunity to give the L2 a try out. On taking it out of the box we noticed how sturdy the machine is and it’s larger overall than our other laser machines.
I must say, the Atezr L2 (24W) is a game-changer. As someone who enjoys testing out new products, I was genuinely impressed by the significant improvements in performance compared to its first-generation counterpart. It’s evident that the designers put a lot of thought and effort into enhancing the functionalities of this second-generation machine.
There were a couple of issues with putting it together, and it did take us longer than we thought it would. The main problem was in getting the transfer shaft aligned. (Actually just getting it unwrapped from the plastic wrapping probably the biggest challenge 😂.) However, with a bit of perseverance we finally managed to get it set in right.
I lost count of how many times we screwed and unscrewed things, but we finally got everything set up.
As I say the machine is very solid and sturdy. It’s a lot more powerful than our other lasers and the laser head is quite large. Now this machine has a lot of awesome features. So let’s take a look at them:
Watch the video below or scroll down for more detail
(Can’t see the video? You may have an ad blocker installed).
Working Area
The working area measures 410mm x 410mm (16″:” x16″). So there’s plenty of room to cut out or engrave larger projects. All of our other machines have a smaller work area so it is pretty awesome to own such a large machine.
Auto Focus Mode
The Auto Focus function is a standout feature.
With our other laser machines we need to use a spacer to adjust the laser head to the material. Well this machine has an auto focus feature which means it will self adjust it’s focal length to the thickness of your material. We had to set up the auto focus feature in the Lightburn software, but this is easy to do by just following the instructions in the manual that comes with your machine.
Blurry engravings are not an issue, as the 4 mm increase in cutting capacity compared to similar machines is a substantial improvement. It gives you that extra flexibility to tackle more diverse projects with precision. We found that this laser cuts very fine detail on Card Stock and there is an example further down.
There are still times when you will have to set up the laser focus manually. This is generally needed when you are cutting or engraving fabric or cardstock, or materials with an uneven surface and Atzer provide a focus tool for when you need to do a manual focus.
Laser Spot Size – Some Techie Stuff
- The laser spot size measures 0.08mm x 0.06mm.
- There are four 6w laser diodes that have a 40mm focal length. These are compressed so that the laser gives excellent cutting results.
- You can cut a wide range different types of materials, including wood, glass, plastic, leather, rubber, paper acrylic etc and you can also engrave the materials mentioned plus denim and cardstock, making this an ideal machine for a home business or the home hobbyist.
Laser Cross Positioning
- Positioning and achieving smooth, accurate cuts and engravings are made easier with the preview laser cross sign. It’s a thoughtful addition that ensures precision and helps me achieve the desired results every time.
- You need to calibrate the function in Lightburn and once it’s done you will find that positioning your design on your project is super easy. This is great for those small fiddly projects.
Cutting Depth
The laser cuts wood to a dept of 20mm and 12mm acrylic with one pass.
Speed
The Atezr L2 has an engraving speed of 54,000 mm/min (900mm/s, this is way faster than any of the other laser machines that we have. With this speed you will improve your productivity as projects will be completed in a much shorter time frame, something that we all appreciate. Atezr estimate that you will reduce your working time by 40-60%. That’s huge. They also say that it’s the fastest machine of its kind on the market, with a maximum physical speed of 60000 mm/min. Talk about cutting-edge technology!
The machine has a 3 speed switching mode so that you can select the mode that best suits the project you are working on.
Multi-Level Safety Functions
Safety is always a concern, and I’m glad to see that the Atezr L2 addresses this with a number of great safety features including a flame detector. It’s reassuring to know that the working area is being monitored in real-time to prevent any sparks from turning into flames. The added peace of mind is definitely a plus.
- This machine comes with a safety key and it will only operate when the key is turned on. When you have finished for the day, simply turn off the machine and remove the key. This ensures that the machine cannot be used in your absence. So you have the peace of mind of knowing that the machine can’t accidentally be turned on.
- The Atzer L2 has 6 limit switches which are designed to prevent potential damage or accidents.
- There is an alarm that warns you if flames are detected. Remember you are burning through flammable material and you may have the odd time when something will catch alight. Never start your machine and leave it running. You always need to be present when using it.
- This machine has a gyroscope sloping protection feature that adds an extra layer of safety. The machine automatically stops operating when the angle between the X- and Y-planes and the horizontal Z-plane becomes too steep (> 15º). This feature prevents any accidents and demonstrates the attention to detail that Atezr have put into the machine’s design. I can’t imagine when the machine will get tilted like this but obviously it must happen, so it’s good to know that the machine will alert you.
Automatic Power Failure Recovery
One feature that stood out to me was the Power Loss Recovery. Now this is a wonderful feature that remembers the engraving position in the event of a power failure. The machine seamlessly picks up where it stopped engraving, allowing you to continue your project from the exact spot where the machine stopped So there are no glitches in the design. This means that, in the event there is a power problem, you can resume your engraving and you don’t need to toss your project, so it minimizes material waste making it a real game-changer for anyone who values efficiency and productivity.
Air Assist
Another thing worth mentioning is the air-assist. Not only does it result in smarter heat dissipation, but it is also very quiet compared to some other models. A quieter workspace is always appreciated, especially when you are spending long hours working with your laser.
- The Atezr L2 24w has an intelligent air assist system which can be turned on and off through your Lightburn software.
- It has a double layer air filtration cover that removes the dust and prevents clogging.
- Note: The air assist only works when the machine is operational.
Touch Screen Controller
There is a 4.3″ movable touchscreen. This controller streamlines your workflow and makes managing settings a breeze. I appreciate having everything in one place, to easily change the settings. As we all know, It’s the little things that make a big difference in user experience.
- The touch screen controller is magnetized so it easily attaches to the front of the machine. Having it attached to the machine means you know where it is at all times, so you are not likely to misplace it.
- Using the Controller means you can operate the machine offline.
Sinking Function
Cutting different thicknesses is super easy with the automatic sinking feature of the L2!
What this means is that on each pass the laser head will drop which enhances cutting depth. Atezr says that it is a 25% increase in sinking depth compared to other brands with the same power.
You do have to set this up in Lightburn but there are instructions included on how to do this.
Durability
Durability is always a factor when investing in a machine like this, and the Atezr L2 doesn’t disappoint. This is one good looking laser machine that is super solid. Atezr advise that the advanced optical axes and industrial rails provide a lifespan that’s four times longer than previous machines, and that with approximately 180,000 movements in any direction, you can count on this machine to withstand the test of time.

Projects
***IMPORTANT: THESE SETTING WERE BASED ON A FOCUSING HEIGHT OF 5MM***
Wood Coaster
You can never have enough coasters, well that’s my view, plus they make great gifts. There are plenty of funny quotes available to engrave on them. This project was done on a wooden coaster.
Make sure you do a test run with your machine before committing to these settings.
- FILL
- Speed 6000 mm/min
- Power 40%
- No Air Assist
- Auto Focus
The design took approx. 9 mins to engrave.
Wooden Giraffe Name Sign
Now don’t you think this Giraffe Name Sign is super cute, I know that we so, and it would look lovely in a baby or toddlers room. Once it’s cut you can use your creative skills to paint the sign and give it a unique touch.
We used 3mm MDF to make this sign.
Settings Used
Make sure you do a test run with your machine before committing to these settings.
- Line
- Speed 300 mm/min

- Manual Focus – this was because the surface of the slate was uneven.
The design took approx. 8 mins to engrave.
Engraving on a Denim
We wondered how the Atezr L2 would handle engraving on denim, as it is a more powerful machine to what we are used to. Well we needn’t have had any concerns as it did a beautiful job, as you can see in the photo below. There was no scorching or burning and the laser only removed the top layer of the denim. Just what we wanted.

We engraved this before we learned how to use the cross positioning feature so it’s not quite centered as you can tell.
Card Stock
It’s such a delight to be able to cut out and engrave on cardstock with the one machine. This means that when we are working with the laser, we can easily make birthday cards, anniversary cards and any other celebratory cards without having to bring out one of the die cutting machines. Bonus.
Both cards are engraved and cut, so make sure to check the settings for each process.
Cut Settings:
- FILL
- Speed 6000 mm/min
- Power 20%
- No Air Assist
- Manual Focus
Engrave Settings:

Again I didn’t record the time taken for this design.
Wall Tile – Polished Surface
We have had a few of these tiles with a polished surface in our stash, so we thought we would give it a go. We weren’t too sure how the laser would react against the highly polished surface but It came out fine. In hindsight, we may have gotten a more defined result had we used a bit more power. But I’m happy with the result. Again play around with the settings until you get the effect you are looking for. It pays to have a spare tile on hand to run your tests on.

So What Do We Think of the Atezr L2 24w Laser Machine?
Well, where to start. Putting it together was a little bit of a trial, but other than that, once we mastered it we were really impressed with how sturdy the machine is, how big it is and how beautifully it cut and engraved.
The Atezr L2 24w has a lot of features that we really like. In particular, I really love the cross positioning function. Once you set it up in Lightburn it becomes super easy to line up where you want your engraving to appear.
The air assist is awesome and it is super quiet. In fact, I had to pull out the pipe to check if it was working…it was! It means we have very little burning (if at all) on our projects and the fact that you can adjust it means that we can use it on cardstock without it flying away on us, (although we do try to stick our cardstock down with painters tape to prevent this from happening.)
I also like the auto focus feature. I found that it doesn’t work on thin or soft materials but on wood it works really well. I also like that there is an option to manually focus and the dial on the top is a great feature. All of our other machines, have weird lever handles that you have to lift up and down or screws that you have to unwind and wind up again. So the knob at the top makes it super easy.
It is definitely more powerful and faster than any of our other machines so we had to learn to reduce the settings to take that into account. It does cut up to 20mm wood but we ran out of time to test this properly.
This is a machine that will certainly make an impact on your laser productivity especially if you are making items to sell on Etsy or at markets.
So to sum it up, the Atezr L2 24W is a remarkable machine. Its performance, features, and the attention Atezr have paid to detail make it a standout product in its category. From increased productivity and precision to enhanced safety and durability, it’s a tool that any hobby enthusiast or professional will love to have.
We give the Atezr L2 24W a definite two thumbs up!
Bryan Gravely says
Thank you for this. I’ve been searching for weeks and this is the first post I’ve found that actually has some settings I can use as starting points for various materials!!
Alanda Craft says
Glad we could help Bryan. We have the same problem whenever we get a new machine. If the manufacturer doesn’t have some basic settings then it can take a lot of time to test things out.
Tanner Allen says
Would you happen to know what settings you did for the Line/cut on the wooden coaster?
Alanda Craft says
We purchased the coasters from our local Bunnings store so we didn’t cut them out. We did cut out the giraffe which is a similar material, so maybe play around with those settings. Run a test on some scrap first. Those settings are – Line – Speed 300mm/min – Power 100% – Air Assist On and Manual Focus.
Federico says
I bought an Atezr L2 24w, after 3 days of installed, I found problems and try to contact Customer Service. They do not have Customer Service, I didn’t find any help. When I tried to replace the complete laser module they respond they “never sell and never will sell” that part. Now before buy a new machine I am looking first for what kind of support and customer service will I receive. Be aware.
Alanda Craft says
I am really sorry to hear that you have had such an issue with their Customer Service, Federico. I haven’t had anything go wrong so far (touch wood) so I haven’t had to deal with them. These companies really need to realise how important good customer services is. One bad experience doesn’t just impact one customer but they tell all their friends and it escalates. I’m sorry I can’t offer a solution.
